The Kurdistan Foundation officially inaugurated the Volunteer.KRD Club at Soran University on 21 April 2026, marking a significant milestone in promoting youth leadership, civic engagement, and community service within the academic environment.
The new club is envisioned as a strategic platform dedicated to supporting students, developing human potential, and embedding a culture of volunteerism into university life. As the latest addition to the Kurdistan Foundation’s growing network of university-based volunteer clubs, the initiative represents an important step toward strengthening student-led community engagement and empowering young people as active contributors to the development of the Kurdistan Region.
The Soran University club is the third Volunteer.KRD university club established by the Kurdistan Foundation, following the successful launches of clubs at Salahaddin University and the University of Duhok. The expansion reflects the Foundation’s broader vision of creating a sustainable network of youth-led volunteer platforms across higher education institutions in the region.
Established to foster a strong sense of civic responsibility, the Volunteer.KRD Club will provide students with opportunities to participate in meaningful service activities, develop leadership and teamwork skills, and engage in projects that address community needs. The launch also reinforces the partnership between the Kurdistan Foundation and higher education institutions, creating pathways for students to transition from academic learners into impactful community leaders.
In a notable demonstration of student participation and democratic engagement, the club’s leadership team was selected through an online election held one week before the official opening. A total of 1,400 students took part in the digital voting process, electing a diverse and capable board to lead the initiative.
The newly elected leadership team includes two distinguished Soran University alumni, bringing valuable professional experience and continuity, alongside four current students representing different academic departments to ensure broad inclusion across the university community. The elected board will now oversee the club’s strategic direction and lead upcoming projects designed to benefit both the university and the wider surrounding community.
Beyond enhancing the personal and professional skills of its members, the initiative is expected to create a lasting legacy of youth-driven service and civic participation that will contribute positively to the region for years to come.
