The library of the College of Medicine at Hawler Medical University officially reopened on May 9, 2026, following the completion of a comprehensive renovation project led by Kurdistan Foundation through its entity Empower.KRD.
The reopening ceremony marked the formal handover of the renovated facility to the university, several months after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kurdistan Foundation and Hawler Medical University at the end of 2025. The project was implemented under the vision of Areen Barzani, Founder of the Kurdistan Foundation, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and support academic development in the Kurdistan Region.
The renovation aimed to transform the library into a modern academic space that better serves medical students, researchers, and faculty members. The upgraded facility now offers improved study areas and a more effective environment for learning, research, and collaboration within the College of Medicine.
During the ceremony, representatives of the Kurdistan Foundation emphasized the organization’s continued commitment to investing in education as a foundation for long-term social and academic progress. The initiative reflects the Foundation’s broader mission of supporting youth, innovation, and knowledge development through sustainable educational projects.
University officials welcomed the reopening of the library, highlighting its importance in enhancing access to educational resources and improving academic experience for students and staff. The renovated library is expected to contribute to stronger academic performance and provide a more supportive setting for research and professional growth.
The project aligns with the Kurdistan Foundation’s guiding principles of “Belong, Build, and Become,” reinforcing its commitment to creating opportunities for future generations and contributing to the advancement of higher education across the Kurdistan Region.
